Our story
Cata Export opened in April 2019, to raise what a Colombian farmer earns. The work has three moves: find the farm, build the fermentation protocol, reveal the cup. Néstor Lasso, his brother Adrián and Jhoan Vergara worked those protocols out with them, at El Diviso near Pitalito. Anthony Douglas won the 2022 World Barista Championship on an El Diviso Sidra, and Jack Simpson took third in 2023. The search for the next farm runs across the whole country. After five years of exporting they became growers at Cata Reserva, thirty hectares above Timaná, half of it forest.
Catalina Gutiérrez
Catalina is Colombian and runs Cata Export from Bogotá. She left graphic design to work as a barista in London, then followed the coffee back to the farms. As chief executive she decides which farms to back, what a lot is worth, and where the company goes.
Pierre Fargetton
Pierre played music for a living before he co-founded Cata Export in 2019. As head of sales he signs for France, the UK and Australia, so no lot leaves Colombia without him. Roasters call him for what to buy, how to use it, and what is worth the wait.
